Choosing ink colors can be tricky. While there’s no magic formula in choosing ink colors, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Contrast

If your design needs to stand out against the color of the shirt you’ve chosen, make sure you select a color that will really pop. The key to selecting a high contrast is choosing a light color with a medium to dark color or black.

Value

Value, also sometimes referred to as tone, is the relative lightness and darkness of your image. Medium values also don’t work well side by side. You don’t want to choose colors that have the same value as your shirt. For example, When using lighter shirts, be careful of pastel colors such as yellow, baby blue, or light pink. If you have artwork that has many colors, you want to make sure you have a range of tones; light, mid, and dark.

One color printing will always be your cheapest option. Adding colors means that you’re adding screens and labor costs to your printing. We can go up to six colors.

House Inks

To avoid paying for custom ink mixes, choose from one of the standard ink colors we keep in stock. You may also select a custom, non-house color for an additional charge. If your brand uses a particular Pantone color, please let us know. If you don’t select a house color, you’re at the mercy of our designer’s choice, who will pick our closest Amano House Ink Color. Every computer monitor displays colors differently, and this is one of the reasons we like you to select a color.
